Once again, the effects of Covid-19 have prevented the Designfestival Kölner Passagen and thus also the Designers Tower 2022. In a cooperation with mad.brussels and supported by hub.brussels and MWIDE NRW, the exhibition planned to present the latest designs of 5 designers each from Brussels and NRW in a joint presentation. In addition to the real exhibition, a virtual presentation was also planned, which visitors could have viewed with VR glasses. Unfortunately, even this virtual reality experience, designed and realised by the digital artists and programmers Nieves de la Fuente, Dolunay Gördüm and Andreas Keller, cannot be shown as planned. As a substitute, the three VR specialists have reworked their digital rooms and made them accessible for the screen. So, it can now be viewed with any desktop computer, mobile phone or other mobile device.
They created a digital copy of the Designers Tower exhibition space, 10 of them to be precise, in each of which an exhibit can be viewed. However, not in the style of the real exhibition or a normal show of works. Gördüm, de la Fuente and Keller asked the 10 designers in advance about the inspiration behind their design. They then interpreted and processed this information artistically and used it to create the design of the respective virtual exhibition space. Each room, one per designer, thus provides an insight into the idea behind the exhibit and the designers‘ world of thought.
Visitors walk through the virtual rooms like in a first-person shooter computer game. With the computer mouse and the arrow keys, or with the fingers on the display, the interior can be explored from all sides.
